The Posters

Meral shared this video that she wanted us to try in our music video. The posters we created are all referenced to books.

Below is the link to the canva board that has all the designed flyers:

Story Board

Here's how the music video will follow:

The video begins with the protagonist(the girl in white) watching her memories on the tv, we hope we'll find a dull street lamp (me and Zahra will get those shots at her place)- the lighting will sort of represent her inner feeling. The camera will slowly zoom into the tv taking us to the next scene which will show the act poster(each act poster represents a phase through her life) the video is going to continue while slowly building the climax (Meral will add the mixed media animation to it) to all the scenes playing again in reverse and slowly back out the tv.

MoodBoard

We didn't make a specific moodboard but shared pictures from pinterest that inspired us. We will use the book titles as references to create the ''act'' posters. While also keeping the video open ended to others it is also inspired by Michelangelo's ''Adam and God'' painting and the ''Strings of fate''.

Division of tasks

Meral listed all the things to do on notion where we divided the tasks to each person. Below is the link to the notion site:

Choosing the Final Song

After spending hours listening to different songs Meral made this playlist so it would be easier to finalise a song. We explored a wide range of musical selections, each with the ability to either add to or take away from the visual narrative we had in mind.
Making sure the song we selected would enhance the abstract story we wanted to tell while still giving the visuals the most importance is one of our main goals. The aim is to have a piece of music that would enhance the mood and atmosphere while being subtle enough to not overpower the story as it is being shown on screen.

We finally settled on M83's "Outro" after much searching. It's a song that has a slow build-up, crescendos, and some really moving parts without any overwhelming lyrics. Its ethereal beauty and melancholy undertones matched our creative vision well, providing a soothing backdrop to the story as it is developed. Because of its cinematic quality, it was a great fit for exploring deep subjects and giving our project additional levels of symbolism and meaning.
We made the decision based on practical considerations. We understood how crucial it was to choose a song that would be possible to license considering our budget. Despite Zahra's will to go along with a Coldplay song, we finally decided on "Outro" because in my opinion I doubt its very popular yet, which removed any potential licensing obstacles and freed us up to concentrate on achieving our artistic vision.

Lyrical Interpretation

Interpreting the meaning behind M83's "Outro"

While selecting the song for our music video, we wanted a song with minimal lyrics to experiment with the visuals and make it a concept-based music video. The lyrics and visuals of concept-based music videos do not necessarily have to match. This allowed us more flexibility in the planning process. M83's Outro seemed like the ideal song for this approach.

We didn't expect the song we chose would only have one verse with four lines, despite wanting minimal lyrics. But here we are. To be completely honest, I was afraid that I wouldn't have much to write about in this blog post but a certain 'genius' lyrical website came to my rescue. It is called 'Genius' and can be referred to as the Wikipedia of music, as it provides context and interpretation for every lyric of every song. I discovered the website in 2016, which was one of the most iconic years for music for my teenage self. It helped me understand the meaning behind songs like Mitski's Your Best American Girl, Frank Ocean's Pink and White, and cram the lyrics of twenty one pilot's Heathens so that I could scream out its lyrics with my friends during lunch break.

Without further ado, here is my interpretation of the lyrics of the song and the verses of the poem Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley, as a link can be found between both.

I'm the king of my own land: It conveys a sense of independence and sovereignty as the songwriter sees himself as the ruler of his own territory. Moreover, it implies a certain level of authority and control over the songwriter's life and decisions. By declaring himself as the king, he signifies that he holds the highest stature and influence over himself and everyone he rules in his domain.

Facing tempests of dust, I'll fight until the end: This lyric denotes that the songwriter is willing to face the obstacles in his life squarely. By referring to "facing tempests of dust', he highlights that he is readying himself no matter the gravity of the situation or difficulty he is in, no matter how chaotic or tumultuous it is. His willingness to "fight until the end" shows his resilience, even if there's a raging storm in front of him.

Creatures of my dream raise up and dance with me!: In this lyric, the songwriter joyfully exclaims that the imaginary beings from his dreams should be brought to life and celebrate by dancing alongside him. The celebration can be due to victory over the difficulties he faced, which were mentioned earlier in the previous lyric. The lyric can be a result of his yearning for companionship and dancing together can be interpreted as the presence of harmony and his meaningful connection with the creatures.

Now and forever, I'm your king!: "Now and forever" enforces the idea of eternity and self-assurance, that it will always be the songwriter's reign. By reasserting himself as "your king", he demands and expects every commoner's allegiance to him.

Mixed media

"In mixed media animation, the possibilities are endless; it's a playground for innovation and artistic expression."

Brad Bird

Although the term mixed media is very broad, in simple terms it is a technique involving the use of two or more artistic media, such as ink and pastel or painting and collage, which are combined in a single composition. Mixed media is an expressive and freeing style where you combine various mediums, materials, and techniques within one artwork.

Mixed media is very closely related to other art forms such as assemblage and collage. Assemblage is a 3-dimensional sculptural form, in which found objects are "assembled" together in a quirky and unique way. Collage involves a rearrangement of pre-existing elements, such as cut-up paper of all sorts (newspaper clippings, gift wrap, vintage ephemera, old book pages, stamps, postcards, etc) as well as various other small items glued to the surface of the canvas.

I made this weird thing back in middle school and probably Meral's way of dealing with Alevels which inspired us to use this technique in our music video.

Kirk Hendry's short film ''Junk'' was such a hit because of the fantastic and seamless blending of different media in the short film.

Mixed-media animation, first and foremost, makes companies stand out from other businesses. Differentiation is crucial in the fiercely competitive world today.

A fusion of original and innovative styles, mixed media animation enables companies to produce memorable videos that differentiate them from the competition. This can give brands a competitive edge by enabling them to forge a distinctive character in a crowded market.

I found this although I'm not sure if its a original video but it still seemed so cool

Also whatever this is caught my eye

Animation using many mediums may captivate an audience and hold their interest. With people's attention spans getting shorter, it's critical to provide content that is memorable and captivating. The content you create becomes more visually appealing and captivating when you use a variety of animation styles, which improves audience engagement and information retention.

Another significant benefit of mixed media animation is its ability to simplify complex concepts and present them in an understandable manner.

Mixed media animation can play a pivotal role in boosting your brand image and recognition. The unique and visually appealing content produced through mixed media animation can contribute significantly to shaping your brand's image.

The original and fan-made video to ''Bad Idea Right?'' by Olivia Rodrigo. The animation adds a new look to the video which in my opinion make it more visually appealing.

I couldn't find one so here's an entire tutorial, these weird wedding videos are even an example.

Here's what we've got so far. Let's see how it goes.
Here’s us suffering because we cant coordinate a meeting time to discuss the music video.
