In the 70s and 80s, Pakistan experienced a cultural shift marked by vibrant colors and dynamic fashion trends. This period was characterized by the fusion of traditional Eastern styles with modern influences, creating a unique and eclectic aesthetic. Since the film takes place in Pakistan in the 1970s and 1980s, we made an effort to concentrate mostly on items that would best convey the feel of the time. We felt it would be a good idea for the characters to wear vibrant colors as they are still teens (maybe not for everyone, but in our family, we are supposed to dress in specific colors as to to  how old we are). With all of this in mind, we tried our best to present the characters authenticity and depth by capturing the era's fashion styles (which my nano approved of, with the exception that they weren't wearing a hijab ;-;). The use of brighter colors not only enhance the visual appeal but also help convey the youthful and vibrant nature of the teen girls, which might make them relatable to the audience.

For our film set in the 70s and 80s of Pakistan, we drew inspiration from the iconic Pakistani actress Rani Begum and  a few old Pakistani films/dramas from the era to create makeup looks that not only captured the essence of the time but also added depth and authenticity to our characters.

Location

1. Lahore Heritage Club

2. School

3. The fields behind our school

4. Old Lahore

We chose Lahore Heritage Club as our main location to represent the era that the film is set in, I got some shots in old Lahore although that would have been more original there were security issues for both me and my phone(our only source of camera). LHC serves as a microcosm of Lahore's rich cultural history, offering a glimpse into the city's past through its collection of relics and artefacts.

Firstly, the Lahore Heritage Club's collection of artefacts provided an authentic backdrop for our film, allowing us to create a setting that is true to the era we were portraying. The club's carefully curated selection of items from the past might help transport the audience back in time, immersing them in the sights and sounds of 70s and 80s Pakistan.

Secondly, the Lahore Heritage Club's unique atmosphere adds a layer of depth to the film's mise en scène. The club's sprawling house, filled with corridors and hidden gems, can create a sense of intrigue and mystery, setting the tone for the film and capturing the audience's imagination from the very beginning.

Lastly, the Lahore Heritage Club's commitment to preserving Lahore's history and culture aligns perfectly with the themes of the film. By choosing this location, we hoped it would capture the different moments in time.

Old Lahore, with its majestic forts, exquisite mosques, and charming gardens, stands as a testament to the rich history and cultural heritage of Pakistan. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Walled City of Lahore encapsulates the essence of a bygone era, offering a glimpse into the architectural and cultural marvels of the Mughal period. In choosing Old Lahore landmarks to represent the 70s and 80s of Pakistan in our film, we aimed to not only showcase the historical authenticity of the era but also to highlight the cultural significance of these iconic structures.

One of the primary reasons for selecting Old Lahore landmarks was their historical authenticity. The Lahore Fort, for instance, with its stunning architecture and intricate design, dates back to the 16th century and serves as a tangible link to the Mughal era. Similarly, the Badshahi Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world, stands as a symbol of the grandeur and magnificence of Mughal architecture. By featuring these landmarks in our film, we were able to create a setting that authentically represented the 70s and 80s of Pakistan, providing viewers with a visual and historical context of the era. Moreover, the visual appeal of these landmarks added to the aesthetic value of the film. The intricate designs, vibrant colors, and grandeur of these structures created a visually stunning backdrop for our story, which would help in immersing the viewers in the beauty of Old Lahore. The Lahore Fort's imposing walls, the Badshahi Mosque's elegant domes, and the Shalimar Gardens' lush greenery all contributed to creating a visually striking and memorable setting for our film.

One of the main reasons for choosing our school backyard as the filming location was the practicality it offered. With time running out and resources limited, we needed a location that was easily accessible and could be transformed with minimal effort. The backyard provided us with a blank canvas to work with, allowing us to create the setting we envisioned for our film without having to travel or spend extravagantly on set design. In addition to the painting, we also used other props to decorate the set, all of which were brought without any prior planning. We relied on our instincts and the aesthetic of our film to guide us, choosing anything that seemed to match the vibe we were going for. This spontaneous approach not only saved us time and money but also added a sense of authenticity to our set, as the props felt organic and in tune with the narrative.
